"The Slanted Porch is forever closed." A letter writer in The Fallon Post on August 6 said that was the sign on the door when she and two friends showed up for lunch. She wrote that Fallon "will never be the same" and that she would miss the servers and the chocolate brownies.
Her letter was a goodbye to one restaurant. It was also the first public notice of a change that has kept going since. None of the food businesses that opened or announced plans in Fallon over the following weeks is a sit-down dining room. One is a snack shop in a numbered suite, and one is an herb kitchen next door to it. A cottage bakery is opening its first storefront, which will also work as a pantry, and a food truck has a city license for a casino parking lot. During that time, October's big events landed at Lattin Farms and Oats Park, which are adding to what they already offer.
What 18 Years Left Open
Edible Reno-Tahoe reported that The Slanted Porch closed in July after 18 years in business. The team's Facebook announcement hinted at "an upcoming chapter." That suggests the restaurant is done in Fallon, though maybe not as a brand. As of the latest report, nothing specific has been announced, and the outlet said to expect another update. We found no announcement about a new use or tenant for the building.
That leaves a restaurant Fallon had for 18 years with no single replacement on the way. In its place, a handful of very small operations have moved into the space it left.
Two Suites at 960 Auction Road
The clearest sign of this is one address. Antojitos Las Tapatias is a Mexican snack shop at 960 Auction Road, Suite E. The Fallon Chamber lists corn on the cob and mini pancakes on its menu. The Chamber scheduled the shop's free grand-opening ribbon cutting for yesterday, Saturday, October 3, from 10 to 11 a.m.
The Fallon Post's community calendar has a second ribbon cutting at the same building. Fisk Farm Herbs LLC is in Suite D, with a grand opening set for Tuesday, October 13, at 4 p.m. The Chamber's listing calls it Fisk Farm Herbs LLC Kitchen. Neither notice says what the kitchen will serve or sell, so the ribbon cutting is the simplest way to find out.
That makes two food businesses opening side by side in one Auction Road building, ten days apart. Both of them fit in a suite.
Small Formats Elsewhere in Town
The same pattern shows up around Fallon:
- La Mere Table & Pantry. It started as a cottage bakery with pickups and drop-offs, mostly by pre-order, and Edible Reno-Tahoe reports it is coming to Fallon in October 2026 as its first brick-and-mortar location. The plan is a bakery that is also a neighborhood pantry, with organic bread and pastries, seasonal vegetables, farm eggs and pantry goods. Deep Roots Bake Co. will supply allergen-free baked goods. No address or exact opening day has been published yet.
- The Experience Truck. On August 18, the Fallon City Council approved a mobile food vendor license for Kim Robinson's truck. According to the Nevada Appeal, it will operate from the Comstock Casino parking lot at 1975 S. Taylor St., Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The report gave no start date.
- The Bookish Meeple. This one isn't food, but it follows the same idea. The mobile book and board game shop held a soft opening on September 5 in the Rush & Rhythm parking lot, and The Fallon Post reported plans for an appearance at Oats Park Art Center sometime in October.
The one larger project in recent weeks was a renovation of an existing business. Stockman's Casino held a grand reopening on September 18 after a renovation that included new flooring, gaming machines and the addition of Boomer's Sportsbook.
Where October's Crowds Go Instead
With no new large restaurant opening, this month's big gatherings are at two places that already have the space for them. Both are adding something this fall.
Lattin Farms, Fridays and Saturdays
The Lattin Farms Fall Festival at 1955 McLean Road runs every Friday and Saturday from September 26 through October 31, starting at 10 a.m. The farm's festival page and its event calendar list different closing times, 8:30 and 8 p.m., so check before planning a late visit. The season has 11 festival days, and eight are left as of this weekend. Admission is $15 online or $18 at the gate, and children 2 and under get in free.
New attractions for 2026 include ziplines, a giant jump pad, a straw-bale maze, Wild West games, a bubble station, lawn games, corn boxes, swings and campfire areas. Two dates are worth planning around. The Scarecrow Factory runs only on Saturdays, October 10 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Pumpkin Tower is lit at dusk on Friday, October 23.
Oats Park, One Friday Night
On Friday, October 16, Oats Park Art Center at 151 E. Park St. fills a whole evening. Here's how it lines up:
- 5 p.m., gallery reception. The Churchill Arts Council opens new exhibitions by Ricki Klages and Cesar Piedra. Klages' show runs through January 8, 2027, and Piedra's through January 16, 2027. You can catch them later, but the reception is the opening night.
- 7 p.m., Judy Collins. She plays the Barkley Theatre as part of her "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes: Farewell" tour. Tickets are listed from $35 to $75. Her version of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," from the 1967 album Wildflowers, is in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Both events are in the same building, two hours apart. The next morning, Saturday, October 17, the Churchill Community Coalition 5K Color Run takes over the park from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The Chamber lists tickets at $30.

Visit Fallon and the Chamber don't agree on the vintage market, either on its dates or on the arena's street number on Sheckler Road. Confirm with the organizers before you go. The Harvest Festival at Oasis Community Church lists trunk-or-treat, a maze room and bounce houses. At the Spooktacular on Halloween afternoon, The Fallon Post says to expect candy handouts and activities along Maine Street.
The Small Business Expo on October 21 is the one date that ties back to the food news. It is free, it runs on a Wednesday morning at the Convention Center, and it comes after both Auction Road ribbon cuttings. The things still unknown are La Mere's address, the menu at Fisk Farm Herbs, the Experience Truck's first day at the Comstock lot, and what happens next for The Slanted Porch's building.
