What is actually new in Carson City as November starts? Look at the street numbers and very little of it is new ground. A pizza kitchen is going into a former chicken restaurant on East William Street. A hotel on South Carson Street is preparing for its third name. The street outside the pizza place is being rebuilt where it already ran. At Eastgate Depot, the railbike season's last listed ride is Oct. 31, and holiday trains take over the same platform after that.
Through the end of 2026, the town's changes are mostly old addresses being refitted, and each one is working against a deadline: the first hard freeze, Jan. 1, or the first quarter of 2027. The useful thing to know for each is the address, what changes there and when.
900 South Carson Street Is Getting Its Third Name
The building at 900 S. Carson St. opened as The Mother Lode and later became Carson Station. Today it is The Federal Hotel, with Seven Grille and Max Casino on site. Owner Rory Bedore told the Nevada Appeal that the property has been upgraded and expanded several times before.
The Appeal reported on Oct. 25 that the hotel and restaurant upgrades were about 95% done and the casino about 65% done. All 92 hotel rooms have been redone. The rooms are not standard hotel rooms:
- Fifth-floor lofts with exposed piping in the ceiling, a detail hotel manager Sam Mozingo pointed out to the Appeal
- Second-floor rooms with teakwood walls and floors on their outdoor patios
- Every room has a rolling barn door on the bathroom and either a balcony or a patio
- Rates of $150 to $200 a night, according to Mozingo
The deadline here is the calendar. Bedore said the renovations, which began more than a year ago, are meant to prepare the property to join a Hilton collection brand by Jan. 1. He also plans new carpeting at the hotel and casino entrance by the end of the year and a grand reopening sometime in the first quarter of 2027. The hotel's own website still shows its current affiliation, so for now the Hilton name is a target, not a done deal.
Locals can use the place now, before it reopens. Seven Grille serves steak, prime rib, pasta and seafood with a full bar. It is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day and 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. It also has three meeting rooms, one with an atrium view, plus a fourth near the hotel lobby. In the casino, general manager Brett Hunn's upgrades began about five years ago and focus on removing smoke, with new scented air stations and leathered quartzite counters at two bars.
Farther down the same street, Einstein Bros. Bagels opened its first Carson City bakery in September at 3849 S. Carson St. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., the same morning window as Seven Grille's breakfast and lunch hours.
444 East William Street Gets Its Next Tenant
Across town, the next reuse is a restaurant space. Mofos Pizza plans to open at 444 E. William St. in late November or early December, in the space Big Chicken occupied, according to the Nevada Appeal's Oct. 10 report.
Mofos has deeper local roots than the opening date might suggest. Co-owner Melissa Negrillo, who runs the business with her brother Justin Morrison, told the Appeal that the family opened its first restaurant in Incline Village in 1986 and added Reno in 2021. The marinara recipe comes from their grandfather, Walter Morrison, a Lockheed P-38 pilot. He got it from Italian sheepherders after he was shot down over southern Italy in World War II.
The Carson City location will add a salad bar and desserts to the pizza and pasta menu. It plans to be open 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week and expects to hire 25 to 30 people, with applications taken at mofospizza.com. Its other locations are at 18180 Wedge Parkway in Reno, just north of Mt. Rose Highway, and 868 Tahoe Blvd. in Incline Village.
The Street Outside Is Being Rebuilt Too
The restaurant's opening window overlaps with the last phase of the street's rebuild, and that phase depends on the weather. Carson City's East William Street project started moving overhead utilities underground in June 2025. Complete Streets construction followed in November 2025. When it is finished, the corridor will have new water and storm-drain lines, sidewalks, bike lanes, a 10-foot multi-use path, lighting and landscaping.
The paving is happening in two stages. The city's project page says repaving between Carson Street and Roop Street was finished in June 2026. Paving from Roop Street to I-580 is expected in November 2026, weather permitting, and the full project is due to wrap up this fall. The city also says crews may work full weekends during paving, with notice to the community first. Regular work hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays, and occasional night work is possible.
Other road work is happening nearby. The Nevada Appeal road report for Oct. 26 through Nov. 1 listed the multi-use path between Saliman Road and I-580 as closed until Nov. 2. It also listed full-week closures on 7th Street between Stewart and Plaza and on Plaza Street between 5th and 7th. The city says access to businesses and homes will stay open throughout. It recommends checking the weekly road report before driving through in November.
The same approach is next in line for the north end of town. The city scheduled a public meeting for Nov. 4, 4 to 6 p.m., at the Community Center to discuss options for a future North Carson Street Complete Streets renovation. At this stage it is a feasibility discussion, and no construction has been scheduled. East William shows what that process looks like on the ground: about a year and a half of utility and street work on a road that stays open the whole time.
Same Depot, Different Train
Eastgate Depot at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road shows the same pattern on a weekend schedule. RailZephyr runs guided electric-assist railbike rides from the depot into the Carson River Canyon. The round trip is about five miles and takes roughly an hour, at $96.12 per two-person bike. Its season runs through Oct. 31, the last listed departure, according to Sierra Recreation Magazine's fall roundup.
Next comes the holiday schedule. The Virginia & Truckee Railway lists The Polar Express at Eastgate Depot Thursday through Sunday in November and December, with dates and tickets on its site. The V&T's regular excursions to Virginia City run on weekends from May through October, which means November is when the depot shifts fully from canyon trips to holiday trains.
The Year-End Calendar, Address by Address
Here are the deadlines in order, from early November into the first quarter of 2027.
| When | Where | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Nov. 4, 4–6 p.m. | Carson City Community Center | Public meeting on options for North Carson Street |
| November, weather permitting | East William Street, Roop St. to I-580 | Final paving of the Complete Streets project |
| Thursdays–Sundays, Nov.–Dec. | Eastgate Depot, 4650 Eastgate Siding Rd. | The Polar Express runs |
| Nov. 15, noon–4 p.m. | Brewery Arts Center | Fourth annual Holiday Bazaar & Market, free, 20+ local artists |
| Late Nov. or early Dec. | 444 E. William St. | Mofos Pizza opens |
| Dec. 4, 5:30–8:30 p.m. | Nevada State Capitol grounds | Silver & Snowflake Festival of Lights and tree lighting |
| By Jan. 1 | 900 S. Carson St. | Federal Hotel's target date to join a Hilton brand |
| First quarter 2027 | 900 S. Carson St. | Grand reopening of The Federal Hotel, Seven Grille and Max Casino |
The Brewery Arts Center bazaar on Nov. 15 is free, and with more than 20 local artists it works as an early start on holiday shopping. Carson Now's event listing puts the Silver & Snowflake tree lighting at the Capitol on Dec. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. That falls within Mofos' early-December opening window on East William.
Three dates in the table are estimates. East William's paving depends on the November weather, Mofos has given a range of late November or early December, and the Federal Hotel's Hilton affiliation is Bedore's goal for Jan. 1.
At L Clarke Group, we keep track of when a building changes names and when a street gets rebuilt, because those changes affect how a neighborhood works long after the paving crews leave.
